Troubleshooting Tips for Windows 95

If you're using Windows 95, consider the troubleshooting suggestions in this section.
The troubleshooting suggestions in other parts of this chapter assume you're using
Windows for Workgroups—and the software-related suggestions may not help if you're
using Windows 95.
Windows provides "troubleshooters" for several types of common problems.
Click Start and Help. On the Contents tab, open the Troubleshooting book, then
start the desired troubleshooter.
For printing problems (Windows 95)
If you're printing to an infrared printer, make sure its port is set to LPT3 (not
COM2 or LPT1). Check the printer's property sheet.
In Windows Help, use the printing troubleshooter.
Start Infrared Monitor before you print. In Control Panel, double-click Infrared.
For infrared printing from an MS-DOS program, run the program in an MS-DOS
Prompt window instead of in MS-DOS mode.

For memory problems (Windows 95)
It's recommended that your OmniBook have at least 8 MB of memory for running
Windows 95. Performance should increase noticeably with even more memory.
In Windows Help, use the memory troubleshooter.
If you're having memory problems running MS-DOS programs, in Windows Help
use the MS-DOS troubleshooter.
For trackball and mouse problems (Windows 95)
Try cleaning the trackball.
If you connect a PS/2 mouse, it normally becomes the active pointing device and
disables the trackball—unless you disable the external mouse using the System
Configuration utility. Press
If you connect a compatible serial mouse, you must set it up manually. In Control
Panel, double-click Add New Hardware. To keep it enabled, have it connected when
you turn on the OmniBook or restart Windows.
