Insert the CD labeled Windows 2000 Datacenter Server CD-ROM into the CD-
ROM drive.

Click the Start button, and select Settings—> Control Panel.

Click on Add/Remove Programs.

Click Add/Remove Windows Components.

Select Cluster Service in the Windows Components Wizard.

Click Next to copy the Cluster Service files to the system hard-disk drive.
When the files are copied to the system, the Cluster Service Configuration
Wizard appears.

Follow the steps in the wizard to complete the installation.
When you configure the Cluster Service, you are prompted to assign a function
for the public and private networks. To provide added fault tolerance for the pri-
vate network, Dell recommends that you configure the private network by
performing the following steps:
a.
Set the private network to Use for internal communications only.
NOTE: Dell suggests that you rename your private network to avoid confusion.
b.
Set the public network to All communications.
This setting provides a redundant path for the cluster-to-cluster communica-
tion in the event the private network fails.
c.
Set each subsequent NIC to Public communications only.
d.
Assign the private network with the highest priority for internal
communications.
Configuring the Public and Private
Networks
Configuring the public and private networks correctly in each node is critical to install-
ing the Cluster Service. The following subsections provide the principles and
procedures necessary to configuring your network.

Static IP Address

A static Internet Protocol (IP) address is an Internet address that a network adminis-
trator assigns exclusively to a system or a resource. The address assignment remains
in effect until the network administrator changes the address.
The Cluster Service requires a static IP address for the name of each cluster node in
order to manage the cluster. Because each node in a cluster has at least two NICs for
