Configuring the Windows 2000 Cluster
Service
To configure the Windows 2000 Cluster Service during the Windows 2000
Datacenter Server installation, perform the following steps:
1.
Ensure that you have performed the tasks in the section, "Preparing for
Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server Installation," found earlier in this
chapter.
2.
Click the Start button, and point to Settings—> Control Panel.
3.
Click Add/Remove Programs.
4.
Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
5.
Click Configure next to Configure Cluster Service.
The Cluster Service Configuration Wizard appears.
Follow the steps in the wizard to complete the installation.
When you configure the Cluster Service, you are prompted to assign a function
for the public and private networks. To provide added fault tolerance for the pri-
vate network, Dell recommends that you configure the private network by
performing the following steps:
a.
Set the private network to Use for internal communications only.
NOTE: Dell suggests that you rename your private network to avoid confusion.
b.
Set the public network to All communications.
This setting provides a redundant path for the cluster-to-cluster communica-
tion in the event the private network fails.
c.
Set each subsequent NIC to Public communications only.
d.
Assign the private network with the highest priority for internal
communications.
If you did not check the box for Cluster Service during the Windows 2000
Datacenter Server installation, perform the following steps:
1.
Ensure that you have performed the tasks in the section, "Preparing for
Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server Installation," found earlier in this
chapter.
