Replacing a PCIe Riser

The server contains two toolless PCIe risers for horizontal installation of PCIe cards.

PCIe riser 2 (slots 3, 4, and 5) is not available in single-CPU configurations.

To install or replace a PCIe riser, follow these steps:
Remove the PCIe riser that you are replacing:

If you cannot safely view and access the component, remove the server from the rack.

Power off the server as described in the

3-6.
Slide the server out the front of the rack far enough so that you can remove the top cover. You might
have to detach cables from the rear panel to provide clearance.
Remove the top cover as described in
page
3-7.
Disconnect all cables from any PCIe cards that are installed in the PCIe riser.
Grasp both ends of the riser and evenly pull straight up to disengage its circuit board from the socket
on the motherboard. Set the riser on an antistatic surface.
If the riser has a card installed, remove the card from the riser (see
page
3-35).
If you removed a card from the old PCIe riser, install the card to the new riser (see
Card, page
3-35).
Position the PCIe riser over its socket on the motherboard and over its alignment points in the
chassis (see
Figure
3-20).
