7. Start the engine, and check for leaks.
Running
the
engine without water
can cause serious engine damage. If
you are changing the oil filter while
the outboard motor is out of the
water, use the water hose adapter
(optional equipment) and a hose (p.
84) to supply water.
8. Stop the engine, and check the oil
level as described on page 93. If
necessary, add oil to bring the oil level
to the upper limit mark on the
dipstick.
