The Controllers Menu: Switch Controller Parameters

There are eight controllers in the switch-controller group:
Amber Swch
Amber Swch
Amber Swch
Amber Swch
Red Switch
The controllers with the words "Amber" and "Red" in their names correspond to the four knobs
in the Performance region. We'll refer to them collectively as the front-panel switches. When the
Shift LED is red, Knob A acts as a switch controller (Red Switch A), not as a continuous
controller. Similarly, when the Shift LED is amber, Knobs A–D act as switch controllers
(Amber Swch A–D).
To use a knob as a switch, turn it through its halfway point. Turning it left shuts the switch off,
and turning it right turns the switch on. It's important to note that the knob has to travel
through its halfway point in order to take effect.
For example, suppose you select a setup in which Red Switch A is on in all zones as soon as you
select the setup (you would do this by setting a value of On for the Entry State parameter for
Red Switch A in all zones of the setup). Suppose also that when you select the setup, the
Shift LED is red, and Knob A is set somewhere below (to the left of) its midpoint. In this case,
turning Knob A all the way left won't turn the switch off. You'd have to turn Knob A right until
it was past the halfway point, then turn it left past the halfway point.
You might find it easier to manipulate the switch controllers from your MIDI source. If it has
programmable buttons, you can use them to send the appropriate MIDI Controller messages to
activate the PC2R's switch controllers (see page B-11). This has the added advantage of enabling
you to use the switches in two different ways (see Switch Type (SwType) below).
Each of the eight switch controllers shares the following set of parameters. Each switch
controller in each zone of a setup has an independent set of these parameters.
Switch Type (SwType)
This parameter is irrelevant for the PC2R, since the red and amber switches have only one mode
of operation (as described above), and there are no switch pedals on the PC2R itself. Changing
the value of this parameter will have no effect on the PC2R's behavior.
The only reason this parameter is here at all is in case you dump setups from your PC2R to a
PC2. In this case, the SwType parameter is relevant, since the PC2's switch controllers can
operate in two different modes. If you program your setups so that the switch type is the way
you would want it to work on a PC2, you can dump them from the PC2R and use them right
away on the PC2, without having to check whether the switch is programmed the way you want
it.
The available values are Momentary and Toggle. A momentary switch is on only when you're
holding it down. A toggle switch changes from off to on (or vice versa) when you press it, and
stays in that state when you release it. Remember that changing the value of this parameter on
your PC2R will have no effect. The value of this parameter in any setup is relevant only when
you dump that setup to a PC2.
