IDLE SPEED

Refer to the Safety Precautions on page
Idle Speed:
The engine must be at normal operating
temperature for accurate idle speed
adjustment. Ten minutes of stop-and-go
riding is sufficient.
Do not attempt to compensate for faults in
other systems by adjusting idle speed. See
your Honda dealer for regularly scheduled
carburetor adjustments.

Warm up the engine and hold the

motorcycle upright. Shift to neutral.

Connect a tachometer to the engine.
3.
Adjust idle speed with the throttle stop
screw ( ).

Idle speed (In neutral):

Idle Mixture:

1.
Adjust the fuel mixture by turning the
pilot screw ( ) clockwise until you hear
the engine miss or decrease in speed,
then counterclockwise until the engine
again misses or decreases in speed. Set
the pilot screw exactly between these two
extreme positions.
From a fully closed position, the correct
setting (between extremes of rich and
lean ) will be approximately:
2 1/4 turns

If the idle speed changes after adjusting
fuel mixture, readjust the idle speed by
turning the throttle stop screw.
