    Shock absorber adjusters (fig. 24-25) The shock absorber has outer adjusters that enable you to adjust your motorcycle to the load. The adjuster (1) located on the right side, on the connection holding the shock absorber to the swingarm, controls rebound damping. The adjuster (2) on the shock absorber expansion reservoir controls compression damping.

    Parking (fig. 39) Stop the motorcycle, then put it on the side stand to park it (see page 28). To avoid theft, turn the handlebar fully left and turn the key to LOCK position. If you park in a garage or other facilities, make sure that there is proper ventilation and that the motorcycle is not near a source of heat or sparks.

    Tool kit and accessories The compartment under the seat holds: an Owner’s manual; a helmet fastening cable; a tool bag for normal maintenance and checks. To reach this compartment, remove the seat first (page 27) then the protective cover (1, fig. 40). Use a coin to unscrew its special securing screw.

    MAIN MAINTENANCE OPERATIONS Removing the fairing (fig. 42) To be able to carry out some service or repair operations, it is necessary to remove some parts of the fairing. Warning Failure to refit or incorrectly refitting one of the parts removed might cause it to suddenly come off while the vehicle is running, thus making the rider lose control of the vehicle.

    Lifting the fuel tank Warning Make sure the fuel in the tank is less than 5 litres or fuel may leak out through the filler plug breather. Remove the seat (page 27) and lift the hook (1, fig. 43). Lift the tank and unhook the service rod (2, fig. 44) from its seat under the seat.

    Changing air filter (fig. 45) Replace the air filter at the required intervals shown in the routine maintenance chart (see Warranty Card) . The air box is accessible after lifting the fuel tank as described on page 45. To remove the filter, release the cover clips (1) on both sides of the air box and take off the cover (2).

    Checking the coolant level (fig. 47) Check the coolant level in the expansion reservoir on the RH side of the motorcycle. The coolant level must be between the MAX and MIN marks. Top up if the level is too low. Unscrew the filler (1) and add a mixture consisting of water and antifreeze SHELL Advance Coolant or Glycoshell (35-40% of the volume) up to MAX mark.

    Work the controls to make sure the cable slides smoothly inside the sheath: if you feel any friction or hard spots, have the cable replaced by your Ducati dealer or authorized workshop. To prevent these failures, smear the ends of the flexible cables with SHELL Advance Grease or Retinax LX2 at regular intervals.

    Replacing bulbs Before replacing a burnt-out bulb, make sure that the new one complies with voltage and wattage as specified on page 70 - “Electric System”.
