possjble Cause
1. Fuel starvation.
Fuel shut-off is turned
off.
2. Fuel pump is
inoperative.
3. Water is in the
fuel.
4. Exhaust system is
restricted.
1. DC charge circuit faulty.
2. Bad battery
connections.
1. Engine is
overloaded.
2. Poor fuel quality or
incorrect fuel.
3. Faulty injector(s).
4. Lack of air.

Yerifjcatjon/Correctjon
1. Check to see that the
shut-off valve at the
fuel tank is on.
2. Inspect the fuel pump for
12 volts and see if it is
pumping.
3. Pump water out of the
bottom of the fuel tank(s) and
change the fuel filters and
bleed the fuel system.
4. Check exhaust system for
some type of blockage
such as carbon buildup at
the exhaust elbow. Check
for a fault in the muffler.
Check for a collapsed
exhaust hose.
1. Perform DC voltage check
of charge circuit.
2. Connections are corroded
or loose at the battery and/or
at the engine.
1. Check generator data plate
for rating and monitor the load
that is producing the black
exhaust smoke.
2. Check fuel filters. Make sure
you are using #2 diesel fuel.
3. Remove and test injectors.
4. Check air intake for
restrictions. Make sure
adequate combustion air is
present.
