6.7.5 Mounting Orientation

The drive will operate in all axes (6 directions). The drive will operate within the specified error rates when
tilted ± 5 degree from these positions.
Performance and error rate will stay within specification limits if the drive is operated in the other permis-
sible orientations from which it was formatted. Thus a drive formatted in a horizontal orientation will be
able to run vertically and vice versa.
The recommended mounting screw torque is 0.6 - 1.0 [ N m ] (6 - 10 [ Kgf.cm]).
The recommended mounting screw depth is 4 [ mm] Max for bottom and 4.5 [ mm] Max for horizontal
mounting.
In case electrical screw driver is used for mounting screws, Current Control Type Electrical Screw Driver
should be used.
Mechnical Latch Type Electrical Screw Driver is not recommended because of possibility of mechanical
shock higher than specification value which may cause H D D damage.
The system is responsible for mounting the drive securely enough to prevent from excessive motion or
vibration of the drive at seek operation or spindle rotation, using appropriate screws or equivalent mounting
hardware.
Vibration test and shock test are to be conducted by mounting the drive to the table using bottom four
screws.

6.7.6 Shipping Zone and Lock

A "shipping" (or "landing") zone on the disk, not on the data area of the disk, is provided to protect the disk
data during shipping, movement, or storage. Upon power down, a head locking mechanism will secure the
heads in this zone. See Non-Operating Shock section for additional details.
