Working with the License Manager

The third module under Policy Manager for Intellex is License Manager. Under the License
Manager node, either one or two subnodes appear. If you have installed only Policy Manager, the
subnode Policy Manager is available. If Archive Manager is also installed, the Archive Manager
subnode also appears.
A serialized USB hardware key is included, and is required to run PM. A product ID (PID) is tied to
the serial number of the hardware key. Once you receive the product, install the software, and then
install the hardware key on the USB port on the computer server. After completing installation, the
end user or installer must start the administration client application, enter the License Manager
module, and update the PID for Policy Manager to begin securing the number of Intellex units on
the network that correspond to the license purchased.
This PID entered into the License Manager administration module controls the number of
authorized Intellex units that can operate concurrently under advanced security. Once the
administrator enters the PID, Policy Manager uses the quantity embedded in the PID to identify the
number of Intellex units that are authorized to operate under advanced security.
In addition, the PID includes information concerning the Network Client (NC) Corporate License, if
you purchased this feature. It allows you to distribute a single copy of Network Client to an
unlimited number of users (seats) in your organization.
Note
Policy Manager can start without the hardware key. Install Policy Manager software without the
hardware key. Insert the hardware key either before or after the Policy Manager server starts up.
• PMAdmin can run without the hardware key, and access permission for all users can be set
up.
• For Intellex to connect to PM, a PM-specific hardware key must be present. The key that
goes out with the CD allows one Intellex to connect, but no Network Client license is
included.
• To allow more than one Intellex to connect concurrently, the user must obtain a PID from
American Dynamics.
• Intellex concurrency is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
• To allow NC site license, the user must obtain a PID from AD.
• The customer can request a PID combining the number of concurrent Intellex and NC site
licenses.
• Licenses for concurrent Intellex use can be purchased in packages of 10, 25, and unlimited
(with or without Network Client site license). The number represents the total, and does not
include the additional on top of the free one. If you already have a PID, you should send it in
to American Dynamics for an upgrade purchase.
