Cleaning and Flushing

After each use in saltwater or dirty
water, thoroughly clean and flush the
outboard motor with fresh water.
Touch up any damaged paint, and
coat areas that may rust with Honda
Corrosion Inhibitor, or equivalent.
Lubricate controls with a silicone
spray lubricant.
Do not apply water or corrosion
inhibitor directly to the electrical
components under the engine cover,
such as the HO2 sensor and timing
belt. If water or corrosion inhibitor
penetrates these components, they
may be damaged. Bef ore applying a
corrosion inhibitor, cover the HO2
sensor and timing belt with a
protective material to prevent
damage.
Cleaning
Wash the outside of the outboard
motor with clean, fresh water, and
flush the cooling system as follows.
HO2 SENSOR
CLEANING AND FLUSHING
Flushing With a Garden Hose
(commercially available)
Do not run the engine when f lushing
the outboard motor with a garden
hose or the outboard motor may be
damaged.
For safety, remove the emergency
stop switch clip so the engine cannot
be started while you are standing near
the propeller.
1.
Disconnect the fuel hose from the
outboard motor.
2.
Tilt down the outboard motor.
3.
Clean and wash the outside of the
outboard motor with fresh water.
