OPERATION

INSTALLATION.
!
WARNING:
Do not use Dehumidifier
near
flammables,
such as gasoline.
Your Kenmore
dehumidifier
can be placed
almost
anywhere,
depending
on the water
disposal
method°
o Place the dehumidifier
at least six inches
from
the wall; don't place
it in a corner
or near a large
piece
of furniture_
• Shut
all doors
and windows
in the area to be
dehumidified.
o Before
installation
allow the unit to warm
to
room
temperature
before
operating
• For the first few days, on models
with a humidi-
stat, turn the humidistat
to "constant"
to remove
extra
moisture
from the furnishings
as well as from
the room air. When
the area has dried, change
the
humidistat
to a lower number,
Your dehumidifier
may be placed
on a table
or
shelf that is strong
enough
to support
it with a full
bucket
of water (see below)_ A shelf or table may
be a better
position
to handle
the water bucket
or to adjust
controls
Do not sit or stand
on this
product,
)
I
Also the height
of a table or shelf may help pre_
vent icing of the coils due to colder
air near the
floor (such
as can be found
in a basement)_
Don't block
either
end or right side of the dehu-
midifier_ The dehumidifier
takes
air from the back
and blows it out from the front and side. So wher*
ever you place it, be sure there's
enough
room for
good air movement
and water bucket
removal°
Your dehumidifier
can be operated
in an out-of-
the_way
area such
as a utility room
and still effec-
tively dry out adjoining
areas (see below). However,
it is helpful
to leave doors open
between
these
areas
so the moisture
in the air can move
from
room to room.
A TYPICAL BASEMENT
!
CAUTION:
Dehumidifier
will not work
properly
at temperatures
below
65°F
(55°F
for models
with de-icer
control).
4
The coil of any dehumidifier
can become
blocked
with ice in room
temperatures
below 65 degrees.
Ice
buildup
on the coil stops
the air flow from the dehu-
midifier
and it stops
dehumidifying
even though
it
keeps
running°
Generally
your furnace
heat also warms
the base-
ment evenly
to keep the temperature
above
65 ° ,
The problem
usually
starts
when
on warm
Spring
or
Autumn
days the basement
doesn't
receive
warmed
air and may be at temperatures
below 65 ° , espe-
cially at floor level° If icing should
occur,
unplug
unit (or turn it off) until ice melts
and room
temper-
ature is above
65 °, Models
with de-icer
control
(see
page 5) perform
this action
for you, Lifting the
dehumidifier
off of the floor may
help because
that
places
it in warmer
air
