FLEXIBLE
PUMP COUPLER
Theflexible pumpcoupleris a nylon"spider"insert,locatedbetween
the pumpandthe engine shaft.Overtime,the couplerwillhardenand
deteriorate.
Replacethecouplerif you detectvibrationor noisecomingfromthe
area betweenthe engineand the pump.If thecouplerfails completely,
youwill experiencea loss of power.
iMPORTANT: N everhit the engineshaftin any manner, a s a blowwill
causepermanentdamageto the engine.
1. Removethethree nutsthat securethe pumpto the couplingshield.
Twonuts are at the bottomcornersand one is in the top center.See
Figure5-2.
2. Removethepump.
3. Rotatethe engineby slowlypullingthe starterhandleuntilthe
enginecouplinghalf set screwis visible.Loosenthe set screw
usingallen wrenchand slidethe couplinghalfoff the engineshaft.
4. Loosenthe set screwon the pumpcouplinghalf and removethe
couplinghalf.
5. Slide thenewengine couplinghalf ontotheengine shaftuntil the
end of the shaftis flush with the inner portionof the couplinghalf.
(Theremustbe space betweenthe end of the enginesupport
bracketand couplinghalf). Tightenthe set screw.
6. Installthe pumpcouplinghalfand key on thepump shaft.Rotate
the couplinghalf untilthe set screwfaces theopeningin the shield.
Do nottightenthe set screw.
7. Installthe nylon"spider"ontothe enginecouplinghalf.
8. Align thepumpcouplinghalfwith the nylon"spider"by rotatingthe
engineusingthe starterhandle.Slide thecouplinghalfinto place
whileguidingthreemountingbolts throughholesin pumpsupport
bracket.
9. Securewith the nuts removedearlier.
10.Set .010"to .060"clearance/gapbetweenthe nylon"spider"and
the enginecouplinghalf byslidinga feelergaugeor matchbook
coverbetweenthenylon"spider"and the enginecouplinghalf and
movingpumpcouplinghalfas needed.Securepumpcouplinghalf
with set screw.See Figure5-2.

TIRES
The maximumpressurefor the tires is 30 psi. Do notexceedthe
manufacturer's recommended psi underany circumstances. M aintain
equal pressureon all tires.
Excessivepressurewhenseatingbeadsmaycausethe tire/rim
assemblyto burstwith force sufficientto cause seriousinjury. Refertc
sidewallof the tirefor the recommended pressure.
NOTE:Makecertainthe properclearance/gapis obtainedbefore
