7. Build the Storage System

Note:
Use the information you gathered earlier on the storage planning worksheets to complete the
following tasks. These tasks must be completed before users can access storage:

Create and Configure LUNs on the SAN-attached Storage Arrays

Before using the NAS 8000 Command View NAS web interface to configure storage, LUNs
must exist on the storage arrays within the SAN. These may be created using Command View
NAS or terminal-based software. In addition, SecureManager VA or SecureManager XP is
required to employ LUN masking. Finally, if the SAN is heterogeneous, a Host Port Behavior
table is required to configure arrays to communicate with the HP-UX operating system.
Note:
To make storage within the SAN accessible to the NAS:
1. Create LUNs on each array using CommandView or terminal-based software.
2. LUN mask using the SAN configuration tools.
3. Configure Host Port Behavior to HP-UX using the SAN configuration tools.
See your storage array and SAN management software user's guides for detailed information
on creating LUNs, LUN masking, and setting Host Port Behavior.
Note:
balance port utilization, performance, functionality, and the need for redundant paths. An improper
set-up can result in data loss. Because there are many ways to configure the XP Array, there are
complex guidelines for performing configuration. See the HP support web site at

Storage Configuration Guide for more information.

Scan for Storage and Confirm Available Space

To access LUNs on supported devices within the SAN:
1. From the Command View NAS window, select Storage > Storage Array Summary.
2. Select Actions > Scan for New Storage.
