    About Your Documentation This Basics Guide tells you how to use your Epson AcuLaser CX11N. It also tells you how to maintain it and troubleshoot problems. For instructions on setting up your product and installing your software, see your Setup Guide.

    Your scanner software lets you scan from your computer and control how your scans look. You can’t scan without it. Tip: It’s a good idea to check Epson’s support web site periodically for free updates to your Epson AcuLaser CX11N software. Visit http://support.epson.com. Download instructions are posted for your convenience.

    Handling Paper and Originals This chapter describes how to load paper, select paper types, and place originals on the document table for scanning and copying. Loading Paper You can load paper in the MP (multi-purpose) tray or the optional paper cassette tray. All printed materials are output to the output tray, shown on page 11.

    Placing Originals on the Document Table Before scanning or copying, make sure the transportation lock on the left side of the document table is set to the clean. 1. Open the document cover and place your original face-down on the glass as shown, in the upper left corner.

    Adjusting the Contrast You can adjust the image contrast by selecting from 7 levels (–3 to 3). The higher the level, the greater the contrast. When you lower the contrast, the difference in dark and light areas decreases. The default level is 0. 1.

    Starting EPSON Scan If you want to scan an image and save it directly to a file, you can start EPSON Scan as a “standalone” program. You can also access EPSON Scan from any application that supports the TWAIN standard.

    You will enlarge the images as you scan them (increase the Target Size setting). If you will enlarge the images in EPSON Scan so you can use them at a larger size, you can accept the Resolution setting selected by EPSON Scan based on your original and destination settings.

    Once you have selected your basic settings and resolution, you can preview your image and select or adjust the area of the image(s) you want to scan. EPSON Scan displays the preview image(s) in a separate Preview window on your screen.

    Consumable Replacement Messages When you see the following messages in the LCD screen or in the EPSON Status Monitor 3 window, you need to replace the indicated unit. You can continue printing for a short time after a message appears, but Epson recommends early replacement to maintain print quality and extend the life of your product.

    Handling Precautions Always follow these precautions when replacing a toner cartridge: ■ Install a genuine Epson toner cartridge. Using a non-Epson toner cartridge may affect print quality. Other products may cause damage to your printer not covered by Epson’s warranty.
