The red O N/OFF (CHG) ffldicator flashes rapidly (_i one flash at O .5=second
intervals).
-Charging has stopped because the c ompact power adapter or t he b attery pack is faulty. Con-
sult aCanon Service Center.
The red O N/OFF (CHG) indicator flashes very slowly (I_< -:_- ] one flash at 2 =
second intervaB).
- The temperature of the battery pack is outside the charging range. If the battery pack's tem-
perature is below 0 °C (32 °F),warm it before charging it; if it is above 40 °C (104 °F}, let the
battery pack cool down before charging it.
- Chargethe battery pack in temperatures between 0 °C and 40 °C (32 °F and 104 °F}.
- The battery pack is damaged. Usea different battery pack.

Thescreen appears too dark.
- The LCDscreen was dimmed. Hold iD_SP._pressed down for 2 seconds to restorethe LCD
screen to its normal brightness (_ 31).

- The battery pack is exhausted. Replaceor charge the battery pack (iZ_ 27).
- Remove the battery packand reattach it correctly.
Abnormal characters appear on the screen and the camcorder does not operate properly.
- Disconnectthe power source and reconnect it after a short time. If the problem still persists,
disconnect the power source and pressthe RESETbutton with a pointeditem. Pressing the
RESETbutton resets all settings.
Video noise appears on screen.
- Keep a distance between the camcorder and devices that emit strong electromagnetic fields
(plasma TVs, cellular phones, etc.).
Horizontal bands appear on the screen.
- This is a phenomenontypical of CMOSimage sensors when recording under some types of
fluorescent, mercury or sodium lamps.To reduce the symptoms set the recordingprogram to
[Programmed AE]or [Shutter-PriorityAE] ([_[_ 62). This is not a malfunction.
Sound is distorted or is recorded at bwer levels.
- When recordingnear loud sounds (suchas fireworks, shows or concerts), sound may become
distorted or it may not be recordedat the actual bvels. Activate the microphone attenuator
(E_[_J 1 43) or adjust the audio recording level manually ([_ 80).
The picture is displayed correctly but there is no sound from the built=in speaker.
- Speaker volume is turned off. Adjust the volume (_ 49).
- If the SW-250N StereoVideo Cableis connectedto the camcorder, disconnectit.
- The AV terminal is set to headphoneoutput. Set [AV/Headphones] t o [AV] (_ 81).
