Storage Hardware
The main hardware component for a CX300, CX500, or CX500i
storage system is a disk processor enclosure (DPE2); for a CX700
storage system, it is a storage processor enclosure (SPE). Each storage
system has two storage processors (SPs).
Table 1-1 on page 1-2 outlines each storage-system enclosure and disk
capacity.
A CX300, CX500, and CX500i DPE2 or a CX700 SPE enclosure is a
sheet-metal housing with a front door, midplane, and slots for the
two storage processors (SPs), two power supplies, and fan modules.
A CX300, CX500, or CX500i DPE2 also has space for 15 disks. All
components are replaceable units (FRUs) that can be replaced under
power.
A separate standby power supply (SPS) is required to support write
caching. Two are required for the CX500 and CX700; only one SPS is
required for CX300, but it is more highly available with two.
Figure 6-2 shows the SPE, DAE2s, SPSs, and cabinet components of a
CX700 storage system. Components of a CX300 and CX500 storage
systems are similar.
