Web Configuration Interface

Changing the Device Name

The device name is the name that the Web Configuration Interface uses for the device currently
connected to it. The default name is "PTE-300 Telnet". You can change the name to anything up to 38
characters in length. You should try to keep names unique on your network if you are using multiple
interfaces so as to distinguish more easily among them.
This web page also displays the Link Local name. The Link Local name is a DNS safe name that is
derived from the device name. Operating systems which support the mDNS protocol allow you to
address the interface using the Link Local name.
To change the Device Name:
1. Click the Services link at the top of any page to open the Services page.
2. Enter the new Device Name in the Device Name field.
3. Click the Change Device Name button.
4. Please wait while the system restarts.
5. The Web page will refresh to the Telnet Summary page. Click the Services link at the top of the page
to confirm that the Device Name change was completed.

Changing Port Values

You may also change the various port numbers for the protocols that the interface supports. Under
normal circumstances, you will leave these port numbers at their default values.
To change the port values:
1. On the Services page, enter the new port number values in the appropriate field.
2. Click the Change Port Values button.
3. Please wait while the system restarts.
4. Click the Services link at the top of the Summary page to confirm that the port values were changed.
The UDP Serial Port MUST be set to 9131.

Changing TCP Keep-Alive

You can enable and change various parameters which control the interface's keep-alive mechanism. The
keep-alive mechanism will terminate network connections if a computer is not reachable for a period of
time. The parameters which can be changed here are global and affect all TCP/IP protocols/services (i.e.
HTTP, Telnet, Daytime and Discard).
Normally, TCP/IP connections are maintained indefinitely. This means that intermediate computers and
routers can go down and come back up and TCP/IP will not care. This can cause problems in certain
cases when a computer connected to the interface goes down. The interface will maintain the connection
to its service for the computer because it has no way of knowing the computer has been shut down.
Because a connection is still maintained for a particular service, the interface will not allow other
computers to connect to that service. To remedy this problem, you can enable TCP Keep-Alive.
To change TCP Keep-Alive information:
1. On the Services page, select whether TCP Keep-Alive is enabled or disabled.
2. If TCP Keep-Alive is enabled, change the Retry Time, Retry Interval, and Retry Count information
as necessary. If TCP Keep-Alive is disabled, these fields will be grayed out.
3. Click the Change TCP Keep-Alive button.
4. Please wait while the system restarts.
