xSeries 306 Type 1878, 8489 and 8836: Hardware Maintenance Manual and Troubleshooting Guide
FRU/action
1. External SCSI devices must be turned on before you turn on
the server.
2. Make sure that the cables for all external SCSI devices are
connected correctly.
3. If you have attached an external SCSI device to the server, make
sure the external SCSI termination is set to automatic.
4. Make sure that the last device in each SCSI chain is terminated
correctly.
5. Make sure that the SCSI devices are configured correctly.
Suggested action
v Make sure that the server supports the ServerGuide program and has a
startable (bootable) CD-ROM (or DVD-ROM) drive.
v If the startup (boot) sequence settings have been altered, make sure that the
CD-ROM drive is first in the startup sequence.
v If more than one CD-ROM drive is installed, ensure that only one drive is set as
the primary drive. Start the CD from the primary drive.
v Make sure that there are no duplicate SCSI IDs or IRQ assignments.
v Make sure that the hard disk drive is connected correctly.
Make more space available on the hard disk.
Make sure that the operating-system CD is supported by the ServerGuide program.
See the ServerGuide Setup and Installation CD label for a list of operating-system
versions that support the ServerGuide program.
Make sure that the operating system is supported on your server. If the operating
system is supported, either there is no logical drive defined (SCSI RAID systems)
or the ServerGuide System Partition is not present. Run the ServerGuide program
and make sure that setup is complete.
