This guide is for the technician or engineer who will physically install the COM Express embedded computing module onto the CR100 carrier board. For additional information about the RadiSys COM Express embedded computing modules and the CR100 carrier boards, refer to the Procelerant COM Express Reference Manual available in the COM Express pages of the RadiSys Web site.

ESD information are provided at www.radisys.com/esd. Step 1: Verify product model Check the RadiSys product codes on the Procelerant COM Express module, CR100 carrier board, and accessories to make sure you received the correct products for your application.
Step 2: Prepare accessory components ATX power supply Use only an ATX12V-compliant power supply with the CR100 Flex ATX carrier board. An ATX P4 power supply with a 24-pin cable is recommended. A 20-pin cable can also be used. Power supplies with 24-pin cables are labeled “BTX.” The power supply should be rated above 200 Watts with at least 12A output on the +12V rail.
COM Express Pre-installation Instructions U I C K T A R T U I D E Network interface The CR100 carrier board includes a 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet interface. Alternatively, a PCI Network Interface Card (NIC) can be installed in the PCI slot or a PCI Express NIC in the PCI Express x1 slot.

Use the five 4mm CR100 standoff screws (item 11 on page 13) to secure the CR100 standoffs (item 4).

and edge screw holes, and place the COM Express module on top of the heatsink, as shown in Figure 10. The screws should go through the two spacers you placed on top of the heatsink. Tighten the screws to 3 inch/lbs of torque. Figure 10.

Use the five heatsink screws (item 12 in Table 2) to secure the assembly to the COM Express module, as shown below. As in the previous step, be careful not to over-tighten the screws. The screws may be too long for some heatsinks (or other thermal solutions). If that is the case, you can use the hex nuts (item 7) on the top-side of the thermal solution to ensure the assembly is firmly attached to the CR100 carrier board.
COM Express Installation Instructions U I C K T A R T U I D E Step 7: Install the CR100 carrier board into the chassis The CR100 carrier board will fit into a standard chassis designed to accept a Flex-ATX sized motherboard.
Front panel header Use the front panel header to attach the cables for the hard disk LED, reset switch, power-on switch, and speaker, as described in the table below. Pin 1 is marked by an asterisk (*) on the CR100 board. Table 5.
COM Express Installation Instructions U I C K T A R T U I D E Step 9: Connect external devices Figure 15 shows the location of connectors and other components on the CR100 Flex ATX carrier board. Refer to this figure when installing your accessory components. Figure 15.
If you have a CR100-PCIE16 carrier board If you are using a PCI Express graphics card in the PCI Express x16 slot, attach the monitor(s) to the card according to the instructions provided with the graphics card. Alternatively, you can connect a VGA monitor to one of the DVI-I ports as described in VGA output selection on page 16.

Other operating systems may be supported in future; refer to the Procelerant COM Express data sheet on the RadiSys Web site for currently supported operating systems. Install the operating system using a bootable CD-ROM. Follow the installation instructions provided with the operating system for details.
