6: IBM Lotus Domino performance test results
IBM Lotus Domino server — average processor time (total)
Memory use
Because the IBM Lotus Domino server handles its own memory management, memory use cannot be monitored
easily on the IBM Lotus Domino server. To provide some insight into whether memory resources are low, monitor
memory committed bytes. Note that monitoring memory committed bytes does not provide information about how
memory is impacted under increasing load conditions.
Also note that monitoring pages /sec provides little insight into memory bottlenecks. Pages /sec on an IBM Lotus
Domino server are usually higher than what the hardware vendors recommend; however, IBM claims that a higher
value for pages/sec is reasonable for the IBM Lotus Domino server as long as everything else falls within the
to read Putting the right spin

on Domino server performance for more information.
In the performance test environment, each IBM Lotus Domino server had 2 GB of memory, which was sufficient for
the load and the number of BlackBerry user accounts that were enabled. Memory stayed almost constant
throughout the test, except for when the BlackBerry Synchronization Service was enabled. There was an
approximately 69-MB increase in memory from email and calendar activity with 2000 user accounts enabled. The
BlackBerry Synchronization Service appears to have a small impact on memory use on the IBM Lotus Domino
server; all other BlackBerry services showed little or no impact on memory use.
