    Creosote Formation and Need for Removal When wood is burned slowly, it produces tar and other organic vapours, which combine with expelled moisture to form creosote. The creosote vapours condense in the relatively cool chimney flue of a slow burning fire. As a result, creosote residue accumulates on the flue lining.

    Optional Ash Cleanout installation Remove Locate the two nuts under the firebox holding the ash system (hole) cover and gasket. Remove the nuts, leaving the bolts in place. Discard the cover plate and gasket. Remove any tabs as needed where the Ash Cleanout rod Ash Cleanout nuts will be on the left side.

Connect to a listed chimney complying with the requirements of AS/NZS2918/2001 and a chimney suitable for use with solid fuel that is lined and in good condition and meets local building codes.     Combustion Air Intake or combustion air can be supplied to the stove in one of two ways. Consult your local building code or Installation Code for Solid-Fuel-Burning Appliances and Equipment before proceeding. Outside air supply - (Necessary for air tight homes.) Outside air may be drawn from either underneath the stove or from behind.

    WARNING: OPEN AIR CONTROL (AND DAMPER WHEN FITTED) BEFORE OPENING FIRING DOOR. Your PACIFIC ENERGY heater is designed for maximum overall efficiency at a moderate firing rate. Overfiring is hazardous and a waste of fuel. Too slow a burn contributes to creosote buildup and lowers combustion efficiency.

    How to Test Your Wood Add a large piece of wood to the stove when it has a good large bed of coals. It is dry if it is burning on more than one side within one minute. It is damp if it turns black and lights within three minutes. If it sizzles, hisses and blackens without igniting in five minutes it is soaked and should not be burnt.
