Smoke Detector
FIGURE 1
Clean the exposed smoke detector surfaces as follows:
1. Blow the foreign matter (dust, etc.) off the exposed surfaces. If there is an oily residue, use an alcohol-
soaked pad to wipe these surfaces clean.
2. Using a foam swab dipped in alcohol, clean all surface recesses and corners. Using a dry swab, wipe all
surfaces clean.
3. Using a foam swab dipped in alcohol, clean both detector lenses. Clean the lenses thoroughly...they
are
the heart of the detector's photoelectric system. Wipe any film off with a dry swab.
4. Make sure you have removed all foreign matter from the chamber. Ensure that the light path from the LED
to the photodiode is clear.
5. Clean the cover with an alcohol-soaked
pad.
6. Examine all metallic surfaces for corrosion. If corrosion exists, return the detector to Headquarters
for
repair.
7. Clean the exterior with alcohol-soaked
pads.
DETECTOR
REASSEMBLY
Reassemble the detector as follows:
1. Ensure that the insect screen is in place. It should run around the inside rim of the detector chamber.
2. Position the cover so that the cover catches line up with the detector latch tabs.
3. Press the cover onto the detector until it snaps into place.
OPERATIONAL
CHECK
Check the operation of the smoke detector as follows:
1. With the detector installed and with system power on, blow smoke into the detector chamber to initiate an
alarm. Allow 10 seconds for the detector to activate (it works on a "count" system).
2. Clear the chamber of smoke.
If any of these tests reveal a malfunctioning
detector, return the detector to Headquarters for repair.
