Cleaning Instructions
This publication provides cleaning instructions for the
2098-9635 photoelectric smoke detector and the
2098-9636 photoelectric smoke detector with LED.
MATERIALS REQUIRED
l
Cleaning kit, Simplex P/N 553-431.
l
Isopropyl alcohol.
l
Canned air or compressed, oil-free air.
l
A thin-point, flathead screwdriver.

Detector Disassembly
INote: Since both detectors are cleaned the same way, only the 2098-9635 is shown in photographs.
1. On the detector, locate the elliptical hole that contains the white guides. See Figure 1. If you look straight down
through the guides you will see a square hole containing a metal tab.
2. Refer to Figures 2A and 28. Remove the detector's outer cover as follows:
A. Insert the thin-point screwdriver through the elliptical hole found in Step 1. Make sure the screwdriver rides
inside the guides.
B. With the screwdriver inserted, press down firmly on the metal tab beneath the guides to bend the tab down.
