Installing PCI Expansion Cards
Before you install any expansion cards, be sure to follow these guidelines to protect your
computer:
Do not remove factory-installed cards from inside the computer. Removing a card
incorrectly can damage it and the computer. Contact technical support if you believe a
factory-installed card requires repair or replacement.
The combined power consumption of the expansion cards you install must not exceed
the limits of your computer. Refer to the documentation that came with your cards for
their power consumption rating and to ÒPower requirementsÓ on page 90 in this manual
for the power consumption limit for your computer.
Some cards may need to be installed by an authorized service provider. Refer to the
documentation that came with the card.

Removing the cover

Installing expansion cards requires that you remove the computerÕs cover. The cover is
designed for easy removal; no tools are required, although a small screwdriver or a small
coin may come in handy.

Required tools

A small regular (slot-head) screwdriver or a small coin

expansion cards, RAM, or internal drives. If you attempt to install cards,
RAM, or drives yourself, any damage you may cause to your equipment
will not be covered by the limited warranty on your computer. Please call
technical support at 1-800-708-6227 for additional information about this
or any other warranty question.
2. If an anti-static grounding strap was supplied with the expansion card
or other device that you are installing, put it on and ground it as directed
by the deviceÕs instructions before touching any components inside the
computer.
3. Never turn the computer on or operate the computer with the cover
removed.
