To plug in the computer:
CAUTION: Do not press the power switch on the front panel of the computer or the
keyboard power switch until you have completed all of the setup instructions.
1.
Place the computer in the location you have chosen.
2.
Set the 115/230 volt switch to the correct setting for your country.
Set the switch to 115 volts for the U.S., Canada, and Japan. Use the 230-volt setting in
most European countries.
3.
Connect the socket end of the power cord to the power plug on the back
of the computer.
4.
Plug the other end of the power cord into a grounded, three-hole electrical
outlet. If you have any expansion cards, follow the instructions in
Chapter 5, ÒInstalling PCI Expansion Cards," on page 37 to install them
now.

Connecting the monitor

Your computer can be used with a wide variety of monitors.
The basic system comes with built-in video circuitry and 1MB of Video RAM built into the
motherboard. VRAM is upgradeable to 4 MB by adding 1 MB VRAM modules to the
motherboard. (See Chapter 6, ÒAdding Memory (RAM and Video RAM)," on page 47 for
details.) ÒVRAM conÞgurationsÓ on page 88 details how VRAM affects the support of
various monitor sizes, resolutions, and numbers of colors.
