  • Page 11: Delivery And Installation Of The System

    ADS-B IDN Delivery and Installation of the System The system is delivered with installed software configured in manufacturer’s settings. System installation shall be done according to the installation project. Installation is done by main contractor of the system under the supervision of the system supplier.

    ADS-B IDN Operation of the System The ADS-B system is strongly reccommended to be operated according to the instructions (directives) of the manufacturer. Only the software delivered or authorised by the manufacturer, installed and configured according to the manufacturer´s instructions, may be applied in the system.
  • Page 13 ADS-B IDN Figure 1 UPS in the rack 3. Switch on Power Unit After the UPS is fully booted and in normal operation status, switch on the Power Unit which is above the UPS, as shown in the figure below. After two seconds, the LED light on the right side of the Power Unit will be on.

Starting LCMS and RCMS Press the Start button on the computer front panel.  Stopping RPU Warning: To turn off the ground station, all RPUs in a ground station must be shut down softly according to the following procedures.
  • Page 16 ADS-B IDN 3. In the opened window, double click the link to the Remote Desktop of the RPU which you want to connect. 4. When the RPU is connected, a log in window will pop up for user name and password to that RPU.

    Era Display Application Please see the referenced document. ADS-B System Monitoring Application Era ADS-B ground station is equiped with a system monitoring applicaiton, which oversees the performance of the modules of the system and displays the status to a user.

    ADS-B IDN and connect to the RPU shortly after it starts, the browser will probably be unable to open the web application, or some parts of the system will show Red color indicating non-normal status. Please wait till all components of the system are running in normal mode.

    ADS-B IDN The third line shows the status of inbed software which is a set of procedures that run in the RPU. The set of procedures are configured to start automatically when the RPU is booted. Click on the blue arrow besides “OK”, it will lead you to a new web page when the status of each procedure is shown.

    ADS-B IDN The first line shows the model name of the UPS. The second line shows the IP address of the UPS. The third line shows the percentage of battery capacity of the UPS. And the last line shows the number of minutes left to run on battery should the mains power is out.

    The set of configuration includes: System Parameter Configuration, Display Application Configuration, and Communication Configuration. NOTE: RPUs of Era ADS-B ground station are protected by EWF (Enhanced Writer Filter) application, which is used to protect the operating systems and applications from unauthorized changes and viruses.

    ADS-B IDN Authorized users who conduct legitimate maitenance of the system software and configuration must disable EWF before any changes to an RPU is made. 5.4.1 Procedures of Turning off EWF After logging into the RPU from an LCMS or an RCMS, look for a shortcut icon on the desktop of the RPU labeled as „EWF Off“, as shown in the figure below.

    5.4.2 Changing RPU Network Setup Era ADS-B systems usually are running on a newtwork, even if they are designed to be able to work as a stand-alone ground station with an LCMS to display and monitor. To register an ADS-B system to a network, proper network configuration is a must.

At the moment, RPU starts changing its network setting, and soon the LCMS or the RCMS will lose the Remote Desktop connection to that RPU.

  • Page 28 ADS-B IDN 5.4.3.2 Configure SIC and SAC SAC is System Area Code, and SIC is System Identification Code. They are specified by a data fusion provider to distinguish different surveillance data feeders. To modify the default values of SIC and SAC, press Ctr+F in Notepad, or select Edit->Find in the menu to open the Find window, as shown below.

    ADS-B IDN Modify the values of latitude, longtitude and height between the tag pairs of <Latitude></Latitude>, <Longitude></Longitude> and <Height></Height>, and save the changes. 5.4.3.4 Upload the Modified Configuration File to RPU After configure the system parameter values in the mss.cfg file, it needs to be applied to the RPU to be effective.
  • Page 30 ADS-B IDN 5.4.4.1 Download the Configuration File To download the configuration file “mss.cfg” from the RPU computer of interest, please follow the procedure described in section 5.4.1. The file should be downloaded to a local folder of a LCMS or RCMS. 5.4.4.2 Configure Multicast IP Addresses and Port Numbers Use Notepad to open the downloaded mss.cfg file.

Save the change and upload the configuration file back to the RPU computer. 5.4.4.3 Configure UPS IP address and UPS SNMP Connection On an LCMS or an RCMS, open a web browser such as Firefox, type in the IP address of the target UPS and hit “Enter”...

It shows all of the basic information of the current running status. To setup a UPS unit on a network, two configurations need to be done.

Open the mss.cfg file which is located under the folder: c:\program files\Era\RPU\cfg. Hit “ctrl+F” to open “Find” window, or select “Edit”-> “Find”. Type in “UPS”, and select “Match Case”, then click “Find Next”.

    ADS-B IDN 5.4.5 Display Parameters Configuration To properly display ADS-B targets on Era Display application, proper configuration of Display is required. The basic configuration for Display to work includes communication setup and map setup. 5.4.5.1 Communication Setup Open the Display application, and click “Options” on the left bar. A window of station list will pop up, and you can add, delete, or edit stations. A station is a dedicated connection to a specific RPU by assigning the corresponding SIC and SAC values.

    ADS-B IDN Maintenance The maintenance serves for keeping the system parameters within the specified values range for the technical durability life. For the whole warranty period of the system, the system owner is obliged to perform the maintenance on regular basis according to this Instruction provided such a duty is not expressly cancelled by the warranty conditions.

Accidentally selected computer might cause malfunction of the ADSB IDN system. 6.2.2.1 How to Replace a RPU computer? 1. How to remove an existing RPU?   • Page 46 ADS-B IDN 6.2.2.2 How to test whether it is the flash card which is broken or the RPU unit is broken? If an RPU is not online after long enough time since it is powered up, several things are possible reasons. Please follow the procedures below to investigate the issues.

If Windows can’t boot at this phase, use another working card to replace the current card and try to switch on the RPU again. If the new card still cannot boot, the RPU unit is broken and needs to be replaced by a spare part.
