What is the best board to use around as a surround if I want to paint the board

The best board to use as a surround for painting with the Mendota FireIn ML48 should be non-combustible. However, the manual states that materials like Mineral Fiber Board (Micore 160, 300, SB) and Ceramic Boards (Rescor 360, Fiberfrax Duraboard LD) are only approved for use as an insulator under other non-combustible finishing materials and should not be used on the face of the fireplace or wall. Given this information, a non-combustible material specifically designed for finishing, such as cement board or metal, would be a better choice for painting.

    Building Permit & Inspection Requirements All installations of Mendota Fireplaces must comply with all the requirements stated in this Installation and Operating Manual. The dealer and/or installer must obtain all required building permits and inspection approvals from the local building inspection department or the local jurisdiction.

Be sure to read and understand all instructions carefully before starting the fireplace. Failure to follow these instructions may result in a possible fire hazard leading to property loss, injury or even death and will void all warranty.

This Fireplace is designed to operate with the blowers turned off or on. Turning the blower on aids in distributing and circulating heat to the room this Fireplace is installed in.

    4.8 NATURAL GAS TO LPG CONVERSION A natural gas to LP gas conversion kit must be ordered and installed in this fireplace to burn LP gas. LP conversion kit contains the following parts: one motorized LP pressure regulator #907.012, four cap orifices, an L-shaped Torx wrench and a LP conversion label.

    Using 90 Elbows The ML-Series Fireplace by MENDOTA allows maximum flexibility in the use of 90 elbows in the vent system.
