Your DVD player
- DTH 3300/DTH 3600 will always deliver a high-quality 2-channel (stereo) signal to the
audio output, regardless of whether the soundtracks on DVD movies are in 2-channel
stereo, in Dolby Surround, in Dolby Digital (AC-3) or in audio multichannel MPEG2.
In some cases the soundtracks may be single channel (mono) only, then the output will
also be mono only.
- DTH 3600 includes a Dolby Digital (AC-3) decoder and a multichannel MPEG-2 audio
decoder.
By connecting your DVD player to an Audio-Video amplifier with 5.1 input channel
connectors, you can reproduce the sound of a movie theater recorded on your DVD
discs in Dolby Digital, in MPEG1/2 format, or in the PCM linear stereo format, without
needing to connect your DVD player to an external decoder.
DTS

If you have a Dolby* Pro Logic Surround decoder,
you will get the full benefit from Pro Logic system either
- from titles with the Dolby Surround Mark, or
- from DVD movies that provide full 5.1 channel Dolby Digital soundtracks.
In both cases your Pro Logic decoder has to be connected to the 2-channel analog output
of the DVD player.
"Advanced" or "standard" amplifier
An amplifier is "advanced" when it can transform the 5.1 channel signal it receives from the
DVD player with a digital decoder to an analog signal. The 6 cinch jacks on the amplifier are
analog inputs for connecting the 6 cinch analog outputs of the DVD player (DTH 3600 only).
An amplifier is "standard" when it cannot transform the 5.1 channel signal it receives from
the DVD player's built-in digital decoder. In this case, you must use the digital audio
connection (fiber optic or coaxial cable) - (DTH 3300/DTH 3600).
