About This Guide
This guide contains information about the Extron XPA Ultra 4004 FX power amplifier.
The terms "amplifier" and "power amplifier" are used interchangeably in this manual to refer to the XPA U 4004 FX
power amplifier.
About the XPA U 4004 FX
The XPA U 4004 FX is a four-channel, 1U full-rack audio power amplifier, capable of delivering 400-800 watts per
channel. Each output will be capable of driving 8 ohm, 4 ohm, 70 volt, or 100 volt speaker loads, independently
selectable per channel. The amplifier is capable of driving 4 x 400 watts per channel at 8Ω, 4Ω, 70V, or 100V
when all channels are being driven with equal power per channel.
The amplifier is able to apportion the total output power per pair of channels, allowing each channel of a pair to
drive up to the total output power for both channels (800 watts).
The XPA U 4004 FX is an Energy Star qualified amplifier, drawing less than one watt in standby, as well as
featuring a new ECO Standby mode which places the amplifier in standby after 7 to 8 seconds of no audio signal
on any of the inputs. The unit quickly exits standby (< 5 ms) when a signal is detected on any of the inputs.

Configurable output mode per channel — Allows this single amplifier model to be used in multi-zone
installations with unique configurations per channel.

Flexible power allocation to match system requirements — 800 total watts is shared between adjacent
odd/even channel pairs to provide the right amount of power where it's needed.

Auto standby saves energy — Automatically enters standby mode after 25 minutes of inactivity, dramatically
reducing power consumption. Auto-standby can be disabled if required.

InstaWake+ exits auto-standby mode in under 5 milliseconds — The XPA U 4004 FX quickly returns to
full power in less than 5 ms upon signal detection, with minimal inrush current.

ENERGY STAR
energy efficient product that conserves energy and reduces costs. It consumes less than 1 Watt in standby
mode and has an idle power low enough to allow the standby timer to be defeated.

ECO Standby Mode — After 7 to 8 seconds of no audio signal on any of the inputs, the unit enters standby.
The unit quickly exits standby (< 5ms) when a signal is detected on any of the inputs.

HPF selectable for 70V and 100V channel modes — Prevents saturation of speaker transformer cores.

Rack-mountable 1U, full rack width enclosure — With the capability to deliver high performance in one
rack space, the XPA U 4004 FX reduces rack space requirements for many installations.
