QoS is ensured by a communication link between the implant and the
patient programmer, which is assessed during initial linking of the devices
and monitored throughout the system's use. If the devices cannot establish a
sufficient link or if either device receives invalid data, the patient
programmer will display an error message.
The wireless data that is sent between the implanted generator and the
patient programmer is through short‑range inductive coupling, which does
not propagate through free space. The patient programmer uses a
proprietary data format that is incompatible with other systems.
