10.2 Configuration using the Remote Terminal

By means of the SSH application PuTTY using the current IP address,
user name and password (see the box containing the access data at the
beginning of this chapter) a remote terminal session on the gateway can
be opened.
10.2.1 Changing settings
The TCP/IP configuration can be changed by editing the file
/opt/sharcgateway/conf/interfaces.
This is the typical work-flow for changing the IP address using the editor
vi:
1. Open a remote session on SH ARC-GATEWAY using PuTTY. For this
you need the current IP address of the device (default: 192.168.0.100).
2. When the log-in mask is being displayed, you can log-in using valid
access data.
3. When the command line is being displayed, revoke the following
command:
cd /opt/sharcgateway/conf
(change to the configuration directory)
vi interfaces
(open the file „interfaces" using VI)
4. Within the editor vi enter the following:
– press ESC button, then the 'i' button (without shift and enter)
– Now the cursor can be moved to the IP address in the line "address"
using the arrow keys. VI also supports the use of the backspace and Del
button.
– Having changed changed the IP address the file "interfaces" can be
saved by pressing ESC and inserting ":wq" + enter. This will also close
the editor. The editor can be closed without saving the file by inserting
"q!" + enter instead.
5. Having returned to the command line the device must be restarted by
entering "reboot -f" for the changes to come into effect.
6. Please note that the gateway can now only be remotely accessed using
the new IP address.
