Adjusting the Heating Curve

Setting the Heating Curve Slope
The purpose of the heat pump controller is to
maintain the temperature in the central heating
system depending on the outdoor temperature.
When the temperature outside the building is
low, the need for heat is greater, whereas if the
temperature outdoors is high, there is no need to
maintain a high temperature in the system. The
relationship between the outdoor temperature and
the temperature of the central heating system can
be represented in the form of a graph, the so-called
heating curve. The figure shows a family of heating
curves for a room temperature set point of 72°F
(22°C). Depending on the characteristics of the
building, the climate zone and the heating system
type, a suitable curve needs to be selected.
