Facsimile palettes
A facsimile palette is a document or file containing samples of
the colors available on the printer and allows a document creator
to select a color within the application software with a known
printed appearance.
Software versions of facsimile palettes are available for popular,
full-color application packages that support palette import. You
can import the facsimile palette into the application; once
imported, the palette is accessible on the screen. You may now
create a highlight color version of a document that looks much
the same on the screen as it will look when printed.
The method for importing a facsimile palette depends upon its
associated application. Some facsimile palettes are in the form of
code that can be loaded through an application utility. Others
are in the form of electronic documents. Application-specific
instructions for importing a facsimile palette are supplied with the
facsimile palette software. The importation process is simple,
uses the application's own utilities, and only takes a few minutes
to perform.
The method of accessing the on-screen facsimile palette depends
upon the method for accessing colors within that particular color
application. If the application uses color menus, the facsimile
palettes may add highlight color menus to the full color menus
available. If the application displays available colors in a box on
the screen, then the highlight colors are displayed in the same
fashion. Once imported and available on screen, facsimile
palettes are easy to use for anyone familiar with the application
software.
All facsimile palettes are application-specific and come with
instructions for their installation and use. The palettes are
packaged by platform, such as IBM PC, Macintosh, and Xerox
GlobalView. Facsimile palettes available for color applications
may be ordered from Xerox Documentation and Software
Services. When ordering use the following kit numbers:
IBM PC - 720S30460
Macintosh - 720S30470
Xerox GlobalView - 300K09840.
Refer to the card in the back of this book for ordering
information.
Forms for printing on the 4890 can be created using the forms
description language (FDL) software on the printer or by using
similar software applications on a host or workstation. Forms
created on monochrome 4000 family printers may be converted
to fully saturated color for printing on the 4890 using the File
Conversion Utility (FCU).
Using FDL on the printer
Color forms are created directly on the 4890 using the system
editor and the FDL compiler. In this case, ink references
