Start by sewing stitch rows from left to right
and vice-versa (Fig. 17a). These rows should
be parallel and as dose to one another as pos¬
sible. Do not extend the rows beyond the edge
of the damaged area farther than absolutely
necessary to secure the stitches. It is advan¬
tageous to make rows of different lengths in
order to prevent the material from tearing at
the edge of the area darned.
Then cover the parallel rows with new parallel
rows at right angles running front to back and
vice-versa.

The first covering rows are sewn a little beyond the outermost first rows (Fig.17b>
lordertoobTamarcguUr and strong darned area. The covering rows should also be
parallel und as close to one another as possible.
Finally
fill
the
small gaps in the
darning area by a
number
of
addi¬
tional
covering
rows limited to the
exact
urea
origi¬
nally damaged
(Fig. 17c).
