Your 4WD Cherokee 1s equipped with one of
these sy!.tems:
Selec-Trac•
The Selec-T rac 4 WD system allows you to
choose between 2WD and full-time 4WD
for
use year-round on hard-surfaced roads
under mo~'t driving conditions. You
may remain in full-time 4WD
without damaging the system or
reducing fuel economy. For even
more traction to cope with very
severe conditions such as deep
snow, ice, or mud, you can shift
into part-time 4WD. You can
shift on-the-fly at any legal speed from 2WD
to
full-time or part-time 4WD.

The Command-Trac 4WD system
provides part-time 4 WD for off-
highway driving or when road con-
ditions are slippery. You may want
to shift into 4 LO when off-highway
driving conditions require added
lo,,v-speed pulling power. These
4WD positions are for temporary
use only when 4WD is needed. You
can shift on-the-fly at any legal speed
from 2WD to part-time 4WD.
TIP- When off-highway
conditions require
additional low-speed pulling power, you may
want to shift into the
4
LO position. On both
4WD systems, when shifting into or out of 4
LO, slow the vehicle
to
2-3 miles per hom; shift
the transmission into N (Neutral), and shift the
transfer case lever firmly and quickly without
pausing in the transfer case N (Neutral) posi-
tion. You can then return the transmission
to
the desired gear. Do not use pa rr-time 4 W Dor
4 LO on dry pai1ed roads.
