If there is stiff movement:
Have the gearshift lever checked by a spe-
cialist workshop, preferably an authorized
BMW Motorrad retailer.
Checking side stand for ease of movement
Installing the rear-wheel stand (
Check mobility of side stand by folding out
and in.
If the side stand is stiff:
Have side stand checked by a specialist
workshop, preferably by an authorized
BMW Motorrad Retailer.
Checking function of side support switch
Switch off engine and fold out side stand.
Press and hold clutch, switch on ignition
and start engine.
Engine starts.
Shift into first gear.
Engine shuts down.
If the engine does not shut down:
Have side stand switch checked by a spe-
cialist workshop, preferably by an autho-
rized BMW Motorrad Retailer.
Checking gaiter
Park motorcycle, ensuring that support
surface is firm and level.
Check the bellows 1 to make sure they are
correctly secured and have no cracks.
If the bellows have come loose or cracks are
forming:
Have the bellows checked by a special-
ist workshop, preferably by an authorized
BMW Motorrad Retailer.
Checking the air filter insert and, if
necessary, renewing it

Installing the rear-wheel stand (
Removing the Rallye seat (
Remove the screws 1, 2 and 3.
During removal, pay attention to the re-
taining lugs 2 and detach the recepta-
cles 4 from the retaining lugs 3.
Remove the center fairing panel 1.
Remove screws 1.
Loosen the cover 2 on both sides.
