FLOOR CONTROLS
BRAKE PEDAL
lf the brako pcdal should fail to operate while
the vohi<;lc is in motion, you can make an
emergcncy stop with the parking brake The
stopprng distance, however, will be mttr:lt
greater than normal.
ANTI.LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM
(Except cabrlolet models)
When the anti-lock brake system is in olxrr
ation, a vibration will be felt in the stottrtttry
wheel, the vehicle body, and the brako porl
al, but this just serves to indicate that thc
mechanism is working properly - il tn rrct
way means that there is a malfunclion tn tltc

When starting the engine from a fully
stopped condition, and when tho voltrcle ad-
vances until it is around the 6 km/h (3 7 mph)
speed range, noise from the motor will be
heard in the engine compartment, but this
sound serves to indicate that the vehrcle is
checking the function of the equipped anti-
lock brake system, and in no way means that
there is a malfunction in the svstem.
NOTE
Operation of the brake systcrn warning light
is covered in Section 3 rrnrlor Instruments
and Controls.
WARNING!
. Do not drive with your fo<ll rosting on the
brake pedal. This will resull in abnormally
high brake temperatures, cxcessive lin-
rng wear and increased slopping dis-
tances.
. When descending a long or steep hill,
shift to a lower gear and avoid continu-
ous use of the brakes. Continuous use will
cause the brakes to overheat, resulting
in a temporary loss of braking per-
formance.
. Driving through water deep enough to
wet the brakes may adversely affect
brake performance. The vehicle may not
slow down at the usual rate and may pull
to the right or left when brakes are ap-
plied. Applying the brakes lightly will in-
dicate whether they have been affected
in this way. To dry the brakes, apply them
lightly while maintaining a safe forward
speed until brake performance returns to
normal.
