SUGGESTIONS FOR
ECONOMICAL OPERATION
Your vehicle's fuel economy is mainly de-
pendent on your style of driving, how you
drive, where you drive and when you drive
These have an effect on how many kilome-
ters you can get from a liter (gallon) of fuel.
To operate your vehicle as economically as
possible, use the following driving Bugges-
tions to help save money in both fuol and
reoarrs:
. Never turn off the engine to coast down
hills. Your power steering and brake
booster will not function wilhout the en-
gine running. Instead, downehitl to an ap-
propriate gear to utilize engino braking
effect.
. You can save luel by avoiding last starts.
r Keep your enginc in tune and lollow the
recommended periodic maintenance
schedule. This will increase the lile of all
parts and lower operating cogts.
. Use the air conditioner (il equipped) only
when necessary.
. Slow down when driving on rough roads.
o Always keep your tires inflated to the
recommended pressure for longer tire life
and fuel economy.
Keep your distance from other vehicles
to avoid sudden stops. This will reduce
wear on brake linings and save fuel, as
extra fuel is required to accelerate back
to driving speed.
Do not carry unnecessary weight in the
vehicle.
o Do not rest your foot on the brake pedal
while driving. This cause needless wear
and possible damage to the brakes and
poor fuel economy.
o lmproper wheel alignment will cause the
tires to roll at an excessive angle, which
will result in laster tire wear. lt takes more
power to overcome this improper align-
ment which, in turn. wastes fuel.
. Open windows al high speed can less-
en fuel economy. Also, fuel economy is
less when driving in crosswinds or head-
winds. To help offset some of this loss,
slow down when driving in these con-
ditions.
Keeping a vehicle in good operating condi-
tion is important both for economy and safe
ty. Therefore, have your Authorized Mazda
Dealer perform scheduled inspections and
maintenance.
