Detaching and attaching the separation pad (retard roller cover)

When replacing the separation pad, perform the following steps to detach it from and attach it to the unit.
When to Replace the Separation Pad
(Retard Roller Cover)
The separation pads are consumables. We recommend replacing
them after every 6,000,000 pages fed.
When the number of separation pad feeds exceeds 6,000,000, a pad-
replacement message appears on the panel whenever the scanner is
turned on. Also, when the computer is restarted and recognizes the
scanner, the pad-replacement message appears on the computer
screen.
IMPORTANT
• The feed roller and retard roller wear with scanning. A worn
separation pad is no longer able to correctly feed a document and
can cause paper jams. If documents no longer feed correctly as
frequent double-feed, replace the separation pad.
• The messages displayed on the panel are cleared by resetting the
counter. However, the messages will continue to be displayed each
time the scanner is turned ON until the counter is reset.
• Make sure to reset the counter after replacing the separation pad.

Open the upper unit smoothly.

Grasp and pull the retard roller cover with your fingers to
remove it.
