3.1.2 Upgrading an APE Module
Requirements
Procedure
Upgrading the Linux/Windows/application/BIOS image will overwrite the current
module configuration. It is strongly recommended to create a backup image before
installing a new image.

A copy of the latest APE Software Upgrade Tool image and its associated GPG
signature file
Refer to the procedure for details.
A copy of the Linux/Windows/application/BIOS image you want to install on the
module, along with its associated GPG signature file
Refer to the procedure for details.
A USB flash drive
▪ 4 GB or larger for Linux images
▪ 8 GB or larger for Windows images
▪ 32 GB or larger for RUGGEDCOM SAM-L images
NOTICE
Download the APE Software Upgrade Tool image and its associated GPG
signature file from SIOS.
For more information, refer to "Obtaining APE Software Images" (Page 21).
Download the APE software image you want to install on your APE module,
including the associated GPG signature file.
For more information, refer to "Obtaining APE Software Images" (Page 21).
Flash the APE Software Upgrade Tool image to a USB flash drive.
Using the image downloaded in step 1 (Page 22), create a bootable USB flash
drive that can be used to upgrade the module.
The USB flash drive must have enough available memory to store the image
and one APE software image. More memory will allow you to store multiple APE
software images.
For suggested sizes, refer to "Requirements" (Page 22).
For information about creating a bootable USB flash drive, refer to "Creating a
bootable USB flash drive" (Page 26).
Expand the NTFS data partition on the USB flash drive.
The NTFS data partition is where the APE software image will be saved. The
partition is intended to be expanded manually so users can use any size USB
flash drive greater than the minimum required.
Use one of the following methods to expand the partition:
