Preface This instruction manual contains a description of the operations to be performed in order to use the Marposs gauge The system is described in its maximum configuration and in its possible variants, so only the sections of the book that refer to the specific application must be consulted.
1. Use of amplifier 1. Use of amplifier 1.1 General description The application of the MARPOSS E9 gauging system on grinders offers a highly reliable solution to the problem of improving the performance of this type of machine tool. This chapter contains a general description of the basic parts that form a gauge for grinders: •...
1.2 Conformation of panel References in Figure 1 Figure 1 . Conformation of E9 panel Power-on pushbutton Power-on LED Readout meter LED for automatic switching of sensitivity Adjustment of mechanical zero of meter Manual/Automatic switch Cycle-start LED Potentiometer for adjustment of delay time...
1.3 Conformation of back Plate for identification of electronic amplifier Plate with indication of mains voltage and fuse rating Identification plate of I/O module Connector for mains voltage input Connector for input/output signals Connector for measuring head 1 Connector for measuring head 2 Connector for analog output Note The connectors W2 and/or W3 can be NOT present depending on the single...
2. Functions and adjustments on panel 2.1 Readout meter References in Figure 1 on page 8. Readout meter It displays the difference between the actual measurement value and the final value that must be obtained. The scale can be white or yellow, and in metric or inches.
2. Functions and adjustments on panel 2.2 Cycle References in Figure 1 on page 8. Manual/Automatic selector switch Position . The electronic amplifier is in the manual mode. No control signals are given out. Position . The electronic amplifier is in the Automatic mode. During normal operation the selector switch must be in this position.
2.3 Controls References in Figure 1 on page 8. The controls are signals that are fed to the machine tool during the grinding cycle in order to change the speed of stock removal in relation to the dimension of the workpiece.
2. Functions and adjustments on panel 2.4 Switching and electric zero-setting References in Figure 1 on page 8. Selector switch for selection of contacts (where present) First contact connected Position 1 Position 2 Second contact connected The algebraic sum of the contacts is obtained. During Position ∑...
2.5 Enabling of amplifier to automatic cycle References in Figure 1 on page 8. Switch the unit on (pushbutton 1) Electronic unit in manual mode (selector switch 6 in ) and measuring head over the master workpiece Check the zero-setting of the measuring system. Any slight corrections that might be needed can be performed by acting on the zero-setting potentiometer 13.
3. Zero-setting of measuring head This chapter contains a description of the operations that must be performed on the electronic amplifier and on the measuring head, in order to zero-set the gauging system. The procedure consists of two stages: The machine tool and electronic amplifier are prepared for the zero-setting. •...
3. Zero-setting of measuring head 3.1 Mechanical zero-setting of measuring head The zero-setting of the measuring heads can be performed with several mechanical methods, which will be examined individually in the subsequent paragraphs. Only the description that refers to the specific application that is being used must be read. 3.1.1 Zero-setting with micrometric screw a) Loosen screw 1 and move contact 2 as far back as it will go.
3.1.2 Zero-setting with deflection guides a) Bring the measuring head to its measuring position. b) Loosen screws 2 and 3. c) Move the contacts so as to cause them to touch the workpiece. d) Tighten screws 2 and 3 e) Put selector switch 12 (Figure 1), if present, in position 1. f) Act on screw 1 so as to cause the meter to read zero.
3. Zero-setting of measuring head 3.1.3 Zero-setting with screw guides or pawls a) Bring the head to measuring position. b) Loosen screws 2 and 3 c) Bring selector switch 12 (Figure 1), if present, to position 1. d) Act on screw 1 so as to cause the meter to read zero, then tighten screw 2. e) Put selector switch 12 (Figure 1), if present, in position 2.
3.1.4 Zero-setting on support a) Bring the head to measuring position. b) Loosen nuts 1 and 2. c) Put selector switch 12 (Figure 1), if present, in position 1. d) Turn knob 4 so as to cause the meter to read zero, then tighten nut 1. e) Put selector switch 12 (Figure 1) in position 2.
3. Zero-setting of measuring head 3.1.5 Quick zero-setting with handle a) Put selector switch 12 (Figure 1), if present, in position ∑ ∑ ∑ ∑ . b) Turn knob 1 toward SET UP as far as it will go. c) Bring the head to its measuring position. d) Bring the contacts on the sample workpiece.
