  • Page 12: Two Different Versions

General Description of the Instrument 3.2 Two Different Versions The force plate 9287C... is available in two versions:  Type 9287C with external 8 channel amplifier (e.g. Type 9865…)  Type 9287CA with built-in charge amplifier 3.3 Application Examples  The force plate is particularly suitable to measure fast actions and impact in sports but it can also be used for a wide range of other applications ...
  • Page 13 Multicomponent Force Plate for Biomechanics Type 9287C… The electrical charges yielded by the force plate are strictly proportional to the measured quantities. They are converted by charge amplifiers into analog voltages and can then be processed in any way. Negative charges give positive voltages at the output of the charge amplifier, and vice versa.
  • Page 14: Design Of The Force Plate

General Description of the Instrument 3.5 Design of the Force Plate The force plate comprises a top plate of sandwich light- weight construction under which the four 3-compo-nent force sensors are mounted under high prestress. This prestress is a prerequisite for transmissing shear forces by friction.

  • Page 23: Operation

Multicomponent Force Plate for Biomechanics Type 9287C… Operation Range Selection Below are range recommendations for different appli- cations. It is important that for every application the smallest possi- ble range is chosen. This will take full advantage of the maximum output voltage thus keeping noise and other er- rors the smallest possible.
  • Page 24: Balance (Posturography)

Operation 5.2.1 Balance (Posturography) Important: It is imperative the charge amplifier is switched to OPERATE before the subject steps on the force plate. Otherwise Center of Pressure COP can not be calcu- lated correctly. Time Constant Some charge amplifiers have a time constant (TC) function. A time constant is a high pass filter (AC mode) which al- lows dynamic measurement without the static (DC) com- ponent.
  • Page 25: Temperature Influences

Multicomponent Force Plate for Biomechanics Type 9287C… Temperature Influences The temperature coefficient of the sensitivity is negligibly small (sensitivity change with temperature, the entire force plate being at the same temperature). Temperature gradients on the other hand give rise to an error signal in the form of drift.
  • Page 26: Surface Pressure

Operation Surface Pressure Please note that the surface pressure of the top plate is lim- ited to 5 N/mm . If this surface pressure is exceeded, the sandwich structure inside the top plate breaks down and the force plate is instantly destroyed. To get a feeling for this: The full range of 20 kN can be applied on a diameter of 70 mm.
  • Page 27: Maintenance

Multicomponent Force Plate for Biomechanics Type 9287C… Maintenance The multicomponent force plate Type 9287C... is a de- pendable instrument requiring virtually no maintenance. To ensure long and reliable operation of the force plate, please read the next two sections. Recalibration of the Instrument The four 3-component force sensors in the force plate have quartz sensing elements.
  • Page 28: System Check

 Zero offset  Drift  Correct "amplification" ratio Charge [pC]/[Voltage V] This task needs special equipment and Kistler trained ser- vice personnel. Zero offset and drift tests can be done using the "voltme- ter" function of BioWare or any other software or voltme- ter directly at the analog output pins.
