Ripping
(Fig. 1, Fig. 79)
Ripping is cutting a piece of wood with the grain,
or lengthwise.
Position the Rip Fence 9 to the desired width of
rip, and lock the Rip Fence in place. Before starting
to rip:
• Be sure the Rip Fence 9 is parallel to the saw-
blade.
• Be sure the Riving Knife 25 is properly aligned
with the sawblade.
• Be sure the Anti-Kickback Device 27 is function-
ing properly.
When the width of the rip puts the Rip Fence 9 off
of the Table 13, use the Flip-Over Fence 17, in the
work support position to support the workpiece
next to the Flip-Over Fence 17.
When ripping LONG BOARDS or LARGE PANELS,
al ways use an appropriate work support.

Bevel Ripping
When bevel ripping material 6" (152 mm) or nar-
rower, only use the Rip Fence 9 on the right side
of the Blade 31. This will provide more space be-
tween the Rip Fence 9 and the Blade 31 for the use
of the Push Stick 8. If the Rip Fence 9 is mounted
to the left, the Barrier Guard Assembly 26 may in-
terfere with the proper use of the Push Stick 8.
Using the Rip Fence Pointer
(Fig. 79)
The Rip Fence Pointer 76 shows the distance from
the Blade 31 to the Rip Fence 9.
Silver Rip Fence Index Pins 57: When the Rip Fence
9 is on the Silver Rip Fence Index Pins 56, the Top
Silver Scale 74 indicates the position of the Rip
Fence 9 relative to the right side of the Blade 31.
In this position, the Rip Fence 9 can be used from
0" - 25-1/2" (0 mm - 647.7 mm).
Right Black Rip Fence Index Pins 58: When the Rip
Fence 9 is on the Right Black Rip Fence Index Pins
58, the Bottom Black Scale 75 indicates the posi-
tion of the Rip Fence 9 relative to the right side of
the Blade 31. In this position, the Rip Fence 9 can
be used from 7" - 32-1/4" (177.8 mm - 819.2 mm).
