5. Replace the carriage door making sure it is properly aligned, and
secure it with the four hex-head screws. Do not overtighten the
screws. It is normal for a small gap to remain between the door and
the carriage.
3.6.4 Disassembling Converter, Booster or Horn
Depending upon your application, you may want to separate each
component, or simply separate one component from another.
Caution:
Take care not to dfop any part of the
converter-booster-horn stack.
1. Disconnect the welder from the power source.
2. Remove the converter-booster-horn stack from the carriage.
3. Disassemble the converter, booster and/or horn, using a spanner
wrench, or
soft-jawed
vise to secure the horn. See Figure 3-11 for
further details.
Caution:
Secure the largest portion of the horn in the vise.
NEVER attempt to remove a horn by holding the
converter housing or the booster clamp ring in a vise.
Use a soft jawed vise to remove square or rectangular
horns.
4. To remove the tip from the horn, use a spanner wrench to hold the
horn and an open-end wrench to remove the tip.
3.7 Adjusting Welder Height and Aligning Horn
For maximum welding efficiency, position the welder so that the distance
between the workpiece and the horn is at a minimum; however, leave
enough room to allow for easy removal of the workpiece from the fixture.
As the maximum travel of the carriage is 4 in/101.6 mm (minimum
1
/4 in/6.35 mm), take care to ensure that the horn contacts the workpiece
before the carriage is close to the limit of its travel. Under such conditions,
the carriage may bottom out at maximum trigger pressure before reaching
the full depth of weld.
