REVERBERATION GLOSSARY
Parameter
Each effect is made up of a number of different aspects,
such as the early reflection time, the early reflection level,
the pre-delay time, the reverb time, etc. Such aspects which
can be expressed as numeric values, are called parameters.
Memory
The MU-R201 incorporates a microprocessor which sends
the various parameter values to the signal processing LSI.
Such parameter data are stored in the memory circuits. The
100 preset memory settings are stored in ROM (Read-Only
Memory) chips, and the 100 user memory settings in RAM
(Random Access Memory) chips.
Edit
Changing the parameters of preset memory settings to
create new, original effects, is called editing. This
drastically widens the scope of applications for the unit.
Write
Storing edited parameters in the user memory for later
recall is called writing. Such parameters can be used as
desired, and they can also again be altered and stored
repeatedly.
MIDI
This acronym stands for Musical Instrument Digital
Interface. It denotes a world-wide standard for data transfer
between instruments equipped for digital operation. MIDI
applications include controlling other instruments from a
keyboard, or automatic performances using a computer,
sequencer, etc. The MIDI connector of the MU-R201 permits
selecting the memory number with the MIDI program
change signal (corresponding to tone changes of the
keyboard), and controlling the effect level with the MIDI
control change signal (produced for example with a
modulation wheel).
Algorithm
To produce a certain effect, the digital reverberator performs
a number of mathematical calculations which are based
on a set of rules called algorithms. Different algorithms are
required for reverb and delay, gate reverb, etc. In the MU-
R201, latest stereo algorithms are used, resulting in very
natural reverberation.
