Checking the fuel filter
Check that the fuel filter is clean and free of
water. If any water is found in the fuel, or if a
significant amount of debris is found, the fuel
tank should be checked and cleaned by a
Yamaha dealer.

Controls

(1) Make sure that when the main switch is
turned " " (on) or the "POWER" switch
is pressed, the DEC alert indicator will
come on in blue.

(2) Turn the steering wheel fully to the left
and right and make sure that the out-
board motor moves to port and star-
board smoothly.
(3) Operate the remote control levers sever-
al times to make sure there is no hesita-
tion in their travel.

Engine shut-off cord (lanyard)

Check the engine shut-off cord and clip for
damage, such as cuts, breaks, and wear.

Engine oil

(1) Place the outboard motor in a vertical
position (not tilted). NOTICE: If the out-
board motor is not level, the oil level
indicated on the oil dipstick may not
be accurate.
