2. GENERAL INFORMATION

2.1

THE TECHNOLOGY

The Protect B is an intelligent, compact, sinusoidal uninterruptible power
supply (UPS) for important loads such as PCs, workstations, servers,
network components, telecommunications equipment, and similar. The
Protect B range is available with nominal output ratings of 500, 750,
1,000, and 1,500 VA.
Features of the Protect B:

VI (line interactive) protection technology with sinusoidal
output voltage

Microprocessor controller for excellent reliability and optimum
control behavior
•
High-contrast LCD display with status information and
measured values, including the remaining runtime in minutes
•
Overvoltage protection (RJ11/RJ45) for data lines (telephone,
fax, router, and network)
•
User-friendly hot-swappable battery design
•
"Green mode" can be activated to improve battery availability
•
Intelligent monitoring system with USB port as HID power
device for software-independent UPS management
2.2

SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

The UPS is connected between the public mains supply and the loads to
be protected. Under normal operating conditions in which the Protect B
is supplied with mains voltage, the battery charge rectifier keeps the
battery fully charged.
During this operating state, the loads connected to the Protect B are
supplied with voltage via mains filters that provide effective protection
against mains overvoltage spikes and high-frequency interferences.
In the event of continuous mains undervoltage or overvoltage within
defined ranges, automatic voltage regulation (AVR) provides additional
stabilization for the load voltage. This reduces voltage fluctuations in the
public mains supply to a level that is compatible with the load. This
occurs without drawing on the internal energy storage system, which in
turn has a positive effect on the battery availability.
