8-10. Servicing Fuel And Lubrication Systems

Stop engine and let cool.
!
After servicing, start engine and
check for fuel leaks. Stop engine,
tighten connections as necessary,
and wipe up spilled fuel.

To change oil and filter:
Route oil drain hose and valve through hole
in base. See engine manual and engine
maintenance label for oil/filter change in-
formation.

To replace fuel filters:
For primary fuel filter, disconnect water sen-
sor connection.
Turn filter counterclockwise. Remove filter.
Apply thin coat of fuel to gasket on new filter.
Do not prefill the secondary filter. Install filter
and turn clockwise. For primary fuel filter,
reconnect water sensor. Bleed air from fuel
system according to procedure below.
Inspect fuel line, and replace if cracked or
worn.
Close doors.
To reset service reminder intervals shown
on the Engine Display, see Sections 11-12
and 11-13.
To bleed air out of fuel lines:
Turn key to run position, but do not start en-
gine. Open doors to gain access to fuel filter
system. Let pump run for approximately two
minutes.
Loosen Air Bleed Screw on Secondary Fuel
Filter. Fuel will seep into filter.

Once the air has escaped, fuel will begin to
seep out of the spout and from underneath
the air bleed screw on the secondary fuel fil-
ter.
Tighten air bleed screw. Prime the filter
once again using pre-supply hand primer lo-
cated on the engine. Start engine and run to
remove remaining air from system.
To drain sludge from fuel tank:

Beware of fire. Do not smoke and
keep sparks and flames away from
drained fuel. Dispose of drained fuel
in an environmentally safe manner.
Do not leave unit unattended while
draining fuel tank.

Properly lift unit and secure in a level
position. Use adequate blocks or
stands to support unit while drain-
ing fuel tank.
Attach 1/2 ID hose to drain valve. Put metal
container under drain, and use screwdriver
to open sludge drain valve. Close valve
when sludge has drained. Remove hose.
